Dominic uses Terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) to study and control intersubband dynamics of quantum cascade lasers with optical transitions in the THz frequency range (THz QCLs).These lasers are compact and efficient sources of coherent THz radiation and consist of a semiconductor gain medium confined in a plasmonic waveguide.

THz-TDS is a femtosecond laser based spectroscopic technique that allows time resolved measurements of broadband THz pulses. Furthermore, it uses a coherent detection technique to retrieve amplitude and phase information in a single scan, making it a powerful tool for investigating gain and loss dynamics in semiconductor heterostructures.

In addition, Dominic is working on ultrafast current pulse induced gain switching and mode-locking of THz QCLs.
